Musical Greetings!
My hope is that everyone is staying safe and well! I would like to thank Mr. Waigand, Mr. Sickles, and the staff at Rock Port Elementary for their support during this most difficult time. There have been many people working behind the scenes in order for all students to be able to stay connected with their teachers. I, for one will admit that this is quite a challenge for me. I would much rather see each and every one of my students in person, but we now have to adjust to the new normal. Here are a few musical challenges for you to try:
Enjoy making some homemade instruments:
Make a musical instrument from materials you have at home, for example: Shakers: Use paper towel or toilet paper rolls and cover one end with aluminum foil, put beans, rice, macaroni, or other material inside then cover the other end and secure with rubber bands at both ends. Decorate them your own personal way. Plastic Easter eggs may also be used. BOOM! Maracas!! Be careful, and don't spill the beans!!
You may also use two paper plates, fill with your choice of material then paper punch around the edges and tie with yarn or ribbon. BOOM! Tambourine!!
Listen to different musical genres, for example: jazz, hip hop, rock, pop, classical, or country just to name a few. Choose your favorite, and try to identify the musical instruments you hear in the selection. What is the song about? Is the selection fast or slow? Make up a dance! This would be a great family challenge!

This was not the way any of us wanted to end the school year, but it was totally out of our hands. My main concern for all of you was for you and your families to stay healthy and safe! I know this has not been an easy task to learn remotely, and I am right with you. I have tried some new things, and I am getting to enjoy what I am doing, but I would much rather see you in the music room! I have seen some of you from a distance, and enjoyed a wave or a "hi", but I prefer a hug or a high five!
My hope is that you will all have a great summer and we will be able to come back to school as scheduled next fall.
Take care, and know that YOU ARE LOVED!!
LOVE,
MRS.HUNTER
